How can you Easily Make your Home more Eco-Friendly?

Eco-Friendly Home

Are you an environment lover and would like to make your home more eco-friendly? You might be afraid that you are required to go through major renovations and overhaul to make an environmental friendly home, but this is not true at all. Here is a list of tips on reducing both carbon footprint and utility bills by living a greener lifestyle.

Unplug Electronics

You are absolutely wrong if you think that plugged in electronics are not draining any power even when they are turned off. They still drain power, as long as they are plugged in. So, remember to switch off all electronics and unplug them from the power outlets whenever you are not using them. This may not make a huge difference on your power bill, but it will make a difference.

Control your House Temperature

Remember to switch off the heater or air conditioning when you are away from home. If you afraid the outside will affect your house temperature, just close the blinds and curtains to trap cool air from entering during winter and prevent sunlight from entering during summer. You can even install a programmable or smart thermostat that will adjust the temperature for you.

Water Consumption

Even though water charges are generally cheaper compared to electricity charges that does not mean that you shouldn’t keep an eye on your water consumption. There are several ways to save water , such as adding water-saving appliances, make sure you only use the dishwasher when it is fully loaded and deposit rainwater for reuse purposes. Even small things, such as turning the water off when you are brushing your teeth can cut down on your water consumption.

Natural Compost

Instead of choosing chemical fertilizers, you can use decayed organic material as natural fertilizers such as banana peel for your garden. Avoid using chemical fertilizers as it might harm the soil life and pollute the environment.

These tips should be very easy to implement in your home. Start using them today and you will have a greener house tomorrow.

Don't Forget Your Garden

Reducing your carbon footprint in your garden is also essential in reducing emmisions at home. Reducing water usuage, knowing what chemicals you use and understanding which tools ie lawn mowers and leaf blowers contribute to polluting the environment is a great way to start bringing those numbers down.
