April 8-10

Spring Carnival at Alyeska Resort

The 38th Annual Spring Carnival will feature all your favorite wild and wacky events spread over three days, beginning with the 6th Annual Costume Party at 6 p.m. on April 8. In addition to wearing crazy creations, it's the time to register for the Slush Cup, Idiot Swim, Dummy Downhill and all the competitions hosted throughout the carnival. April 13

Wildlife Wednesday at the Zoo

Worried about the effects of global warming on our Alaskan wonderland? Learn more about what's happening to the wildlife around us during a free lecture at the Alaska Zoo. This month's talk, Rapid Warming in the Alaskan Arctic, begins at 7 p.m. in the Gateway Building. April 15-17

Anchorage Home Show

The Anchorage Home Builders Association has moved their annual home show to the Alaska Airlines Center and it promises to be bigger and better than ever before. Standard admission is $10 though there are discounts for military (active and veterans) and seniors; children 12 and under get in for free. April 21-23

Native Youth Olympics

The Alaska Airlines Center will also host the 46th Annual Native Youth Olympics. Support athletes from varied backgrounds as they compete in a variety of sporting events. Musical and dance performances provide additional diversions and entrance is completely free. The event is organized by the Cook Inlet Tribal Council; find out more about the games on their website: citci.org.

April 23

Anchorage Walks for Autism

Meet and mingle new people as you walk for a good cause. The Alaska Autism Resource Center has lowered the admission fee this year, and you can walk to your heart's content, whether that's one lap or twenty. There are activities for every age group plus healthy food stalls. The event begins at 1:30 p.m. at The Dome in Anchorage. Harlem Globetrotters

Can you believe the Harlem Globetrotters are celebrating their 90th Anniversary this year? That makes this year's tour extra special. Check out the basketball magic the Globetrotters have running through the tips of their fingers with a performance on Friday night or Saturday afternoon at the Alaska Airlines Center.
